Southern Eyes- A B-Side!

Ok so the short story on this track is this: After the album was finished and went to mastering with the one and only Don Srygley, there was a track that got a little extra love. Don decided he wanted to do another mix on Honey. So he did and this is what he came up with. It has a different feel from the rest of the songs on the album for sure, but this track definitely has that anyway.

With that being said I want to tell you a little about the history of this track. If you notice in the first verse I mention that this is not how I pictured ‘us’ 10 years from there. Well, the ‘us’ is me and my most amazing wife. She is truly my one and only, ride or die, get through this life, favorite person in this wild world, and she has supported me in every musical endeavor I’ve ever tried to run down. We married at 18 because, well, we wanted to. Seriously, that was the deal. We weren’t dating, but we definitely wanted to be together. At the time, I had intended to ship off to the Navy. When she found out about that she wanted to go with me. So we did what any other crazy 18 year old kids would do. We got married. Bets were placed on how long that would work out. They all lost and here we are. 2 beautiful daughters and 21 years later we still rock each other’s world. I started writing the lyrics to Honey somewhere in our tenth year of marriage. The music came soon after and went through several different incarnations. The track as a whole has taken on several forms and but ultimately ended up much closer to the original version on this album. I look for ways to impress her so hopefully releasing a song on our anniversary hits high on the list! Nothing is certain in this world, but I’m certain I want to keep making her mine every day.

Honey
This is not how I pictured us
10 years from there, our hearts unimpaired
By life’s cruel hands and the world’s cold stare
What we did know then, would never be the same again
And it’s so crazy, we proved everybody wrong now

Maybe there’s a silver lining waiting somewhere
If we can keep it all together we can make it there
And if it all falls down, we’ve got right now
And if the world comes crashing it’ll be alright
We’ll turn the radio on and talk about it all night
And if it all falls down, we’ve got right now

We had it all, that’s what we thought
But you could not tell us then, that we would never be there again
But that’s the price you pay, when you’re not afraid to change
And everybody keeps moving by, with wonder in their eyes
Now how would things be different if they took those chances

Maybe there’s a silver lining waiting somewhere
If we can keep it all together we can make it there
And if it all falls down, we’ve got right now
And if the world comes crashing it’ll be alright
We’ll turn the radio on and talk about it all night
And if it all falls down, we’ve got right now

We’ve still got this under control- you know we always did now
Changes come, we make the best of those- we made it this far
Maybe we’ve got something to prove- to everybody watching now
They could see the best of me and you- we made it this far

Maybe there’s a silver lining waiting somewhere
If we can keep it all together we can make it there
And if it all falls down, we’ve got right now
And if the world comes crashing it’ll be alright
We’ll turn the radio on and talk about it all night
And if it all falls down, we’ve got right now
